Shinan district, the heart of Qingdao, is redefining economic growth with an advanced urban manufacturing model. By improving high-end production with modern services, the district is overcoming land scarcity to promote high-tech development across its 30.01 square kilometers.
Central to this strategy are the "Headquarter-plus-satellite manufacturing" and "Headquarter-anchored R&D" models. A prime example is Polestones Automobile; with its headquarters remaining in Shinan, its production base operates in Laixi. This synergy recently celebrated the rollout of its 20,000th vehicle, marking 11 consecutive months of sales growth. Similarly, the Marine Chemical Research Institute excels in specialized R&D, securing a 40 percent domestic market share in ship coatings.
These initiatives have had significant results. The number of industrial enterprises above a designated size in Shinan has reached 22. From January to November 2025, the district's industrial added value grew by 14.3 percent, ranking first in Qingdao. Additionally, Shinan has achieved breakthroughs with Hisense Mobile and Kekai Electronic being recognized as provincial manufacturing champions.
Looking ahead, Shinan is building an integrated, boundary-free tech zone. Leveraging its status as a financial hub and a magnet for talent, the district is prioritizing AI integration across 79 industrial buildings to unlock the potential of emerging industries and new quality productive forces.
