As early summer sweeps across Qingdao, the Douyin Football Carnival has brought a new wave of excitement to Shinan district, setting the city's deep-rooted football spirit ablaze. Over the past month, 52 local teams competed in an electrifying series of matches, drawing large crowds to Tiantai Stadium and igniting surrounding industries like dining, lodging, and retail.
The event not only captivated locals but also intrigued tourists, who extended their visits to enjoy the iconic sights and flavors of Qingdao. This reflects a growing national trend of ''sports + tourism'' and ''sports + consumption,'' where sporting events are powerful engines of urban economic growth.
Shinan district has embraced this momentum by integrating sports into popular scenic spots, shopping areas, and neighborhoods. In 2024 alone, more than 300 signature events—such as beach ball tournaments, coastal fun runs, and urban football challenges—have attracted nearly 100,000 participants and spectators.
From pop-up football stores on Zhongshan Road to packed crowds at the Football City Challenge in MixC Mall, Shinan is successfully blending sports with culture, commerce, and tourism. Looking ahead to 2025, Shinan plans to host prestigious events like the Qingdao International OP Sailing Race and expand local sports IPs tailored to all ages.
With sports as a driving force, Shinan continues to unlock new vitality and create lasting economic value.
