History reborn in modern Qingdao

Laojieli, an ancient street in Shinan district of Qingdao, Shandong province, boasts the characteristics of a business district and the urban legends the region.
Wang Feng, Party secretary of Shinan, said that the district plans to introduce 50 historical and cultural tourism projects to meet the growing need for more public places. It is also expected to launch a reading project and renovate old city blocks.
In recent years, Shinan has taken root in the rich historical and cultural soil of Qingdao and revitalized many old buildings. Since 2019, the district has upgraded Bainian Liyuan's urban planning and attracted new business formats.
Zhongshan Road used to be a commercial street with the most concentrated time-honored brands in Qingdao. The Kalfaye ice cream store opened on No 74 Zhongshan Road in 1994 and is a famous spot to grab tasty desserts for many Qingdao residents.
Dong Zhaokun, head of Qingdao Kalfaye Food Co, said that the company has launched cultural and creative ice creams in Qingdao landmarks such as the Trestle Bridge, the Catholic Church and the Olympic Sailing Center.
There are also film and television professionals who have a special obsession with Laojieli, a "natural studio" that perfectly combines literature and art with the market and is very suitable for film crews to shoot scenes.
Li Feng, executive vice-president of China Movie Metropolis, said that Qingdao, especially the old downtown area represented by Laojieli, is an area with the most characteristic and protected buildings.
