Upgrading projects for Taiping Mountain and Fushan Mountain in Qingdao's Shinan district are progressing smoothly, Qingdao Daily reported.
As major "urban green lungs", the mountains' restoration projects are a key part of Qingdao's three-year plan for urban renewal and construction, and have drawn much public attention.
The projects include the upgrading of walkways, green landscapes, recreational facilities, public toilets, drain pipes, lights, signs, and the construction of parking lots.
The general walkways on the mountains are expected to be completed by the end of September, while a road winding up the Taiping Mountain is scheduled to be finished by the end of this year, and open to the public in March 2023.
A 1.2-kilometer sightseeing plank road connecting the northwestern gate of the botanical garden and the garden's floral corridor in Taiping Mountain has opened to the public.
"There was a rugged trail with many tall trees lining both sides, which was scary to walk along alone," said a local surnamed Wang.
"The new road is flat, leading to a sightseeing platform that boasts enchanting coastal scenery," Wang added.
