Shinan district, a pilot region of Qingdao's comprehensive digitalization reform, has accelerated the digitalization in every aspect of modern governance since the beginning of this year, Qingdao Daily reported.
Taking government services as an example, Shinan district has been pushing forward the use of digital certificates through cross-department data sharing and procedure optimization.
"The district administrative service bureau is responsible for issuing certificates in 33 different categories, 24 of which have been digitalized," said Han Mei, the bureau's deputy director.
"By smoothing out the channels for the usage of digital certificates, administrative departments now can directly examine related materials online while handling many other related issues," Han added.
Digital technology has also been used in grassroots social governance to create a safer, more comfortable and convenient living environment for local residents.
In Tianshan community, which has lots of old residential areas without property management, public infrastructure has been upgraded with digital technology to solve problems such as the shortage of parking spaces and the maintenance of street lights and rain grates.
The community also cooperated with a local technology company to launch a mini program that enables residents to book household services and more, according to a community official.
The digital economy is a pillar industry in Shinan district. From January to May, the district's software and information service companies above designated size generated a combined output value of 1.85 billion yuan ($274 million), up 34 percent year-on-year.
