Shinan district is the most concentrated high-end fashion area in Qingdao, as well as Shandong province, and aims to become the core international consumption district.
The district has gathered more than 1,000 international first-tier brands and is home to 237 "first stores", including 14 nationwide and 105 provincewide.
Its annual retail sales of consumer goods presented an average growth rate of 6.8 percent over the past five years.
Ten commercial complexes, including Hisense Plaza, MIXC and MYKAL, have garnered immense popularity in Fushan Bay over the past two decades, satisfying the consumers' demands across the entire Jiaodong Peninsula.
"We aim to bring in more than 20 new flagship first stores or experiential stores of international brands annually, with high-end consumption expected to rise 10 percent on average," said Sun Haiyan, director of Shinan district's commerce bureau.
In the western part of the district, where the protection and renovation of historical blocks is underway, a slew of new consumption scenarios have emerged, creating a collision of old and new.
Yinyuxiang, which literally means silverfish alley, on Ningyang Road, has proved to be a success.
Local authorities have built new facilities in the alley, such as bathrooms with separate dry and wet sections, utilized new materials to reconstruct the roofs of buildings, and enhanced the functions of walls, doors and windows of old structures.
Using the locational advantages of Ningyang Road and the Liyuan courtyard, the alley has attracted brands including Nanzhi teahouse and Largo coffee. As of March, a range of stores such as Lulu toy shop and Berry Beans cafe have opened.
Furthermore, the district government will utilize 5G technology to promote intelligent management of business circles and facilitate online and offline integrated development of service consumption involving medical treatment, health care, culture and tourism, and sports.
Six nighttime consumption blocks including those in the Olympic Sailing Center and Minjiang Road are also expected to boost the nighttime economy and build a characteristic urban nightlife brand.
