As continuing efforts are being made in Qingdao, Shandong province, to curb the latest outbreak of COVID-19, many ordinary people in the city's Shinan district have started to back the fight in their own unique ways.
In the early morning on March 14, a local resident surnamed Xue brought freshly steamed Chinese yams with white sugar to community workers. It was the second time that she has offered free meals to them.
"I heard that they have worked round the clock. As a member of the community, I want to do something for them," Xue said.
According to Bao Hong, director of the community where Xue is living in, there are many residents like Xue, who have shown concern for the community and are providing support to community workers with heartwarming and inspiring actions.
Sun Kecheng, 90, and his 84-year-old wife Wang Yucui paid "special Party membership dues" on the same day to help the fight against the pandemic.
Since 1996, the pair, with more than 60-year Party standing, has donated money every year to needy children and poor Party members, as well as earthquake and flood-stricken areas.
In March 2020, Sun also donated 10,000 yuan ($1,570) to the community for epidemic prevention and control.
"It is the Party that raised us up and we should pay back when the country and the society are in need," Sun said.
