Shinan hits road to become culture, tourism hub

Huge rise in visitor numbers and revenue during the recent National Day holiday as attractions of Shinan district, Qingdao in East China's Shandong province become better known.
Statistics show that in 2020, the number of cultural enterprises increased to 85 ones in the district. The added value of cultural industry in 2020 reached 4.81 billion yuan ($751.6 million), accounting for 3.78 percent of the city's GDP.
As a coastal district with abundant tourism and cultural resources, Shinan has much to offer, such as Zhongshan Road business area, Taipingjiao Beach Scenic Area, Olympic Sailing Center and the Museum of Rickshaw Boy.
Shinan has launched a slew of love and marriage events to further promote local culture and tourism.
The 2021 Qingdao Love and Marriage Culture Week in early October featured the theme "Fashionable Qingdao, Love by the Sea – I Wait for You at the Seaside". The aim was to create an irresistible brand to further stimulate the romance and marriage tourism market in Shinan. Some 20 activities were staged – including the Marriage and Love Tourism Development Forum, a Chinese and Western wedding industry exhibition, a marriage and love bazar, as well as a love-themed play and a crosstalk performance.
In addition, the integrated development of Shinan's culture and tourism has helped transform the old town experience into something far more upbeat and there is now a real buzz there.
The century-old historical and cultural heritage was successfully combined with the new era, to really lift the atmosphere of the precinct. Nowadays, Zongshan Road has a rich blend of time-honored enterprises, cinemas, bookshops, museums and cafes. More and more people are now getting the feeling that the old town is coming alive.
