It is widely appreciated that science and technology have contributed greatly to the effective development of the modern and international core urban areas of Shinan district, located in Qingdao city in East China's Shandong province.
This year, the district set out its goals of becoming a core area for the modern international metropolis of Qingdao and accelerating the establishment of a pilot zone for its transformation and development.
It also set out its goal of building a "2+4" industry ecosystem, with the headquarters economy and digital economy as the drivers – and modern finance, trade and commerce, the shipping sector, culture and tourism as the key elements.
According to a list of 58 new 'species' of resident enterprises released by the district on July 29, more than 80 percent are technology businesses. In addition, there are currently 128 innovation platforms at or above the municipal level in Shinan district.
The SCO Member Technology Transfer Center in Shanghai – located in the district – has reportedly become the first new platform for international scientific and technological cooperation.
It is reportedly integrating marketization, internationalization and specialization in China, with its occupancy rate expected to reach 80 percent this year. It already has 35 industrial internet storage and cultivation projects and 52 leading service providers.
As the area with the best shipping trade in Qingdao, Shinan has attracted one-third of the 5A level logistics companies to settle there. It also has more than 70 percent of the shipping logistics enterprises and more than 90 percent of the shipping companies in Qingdao, reportedly creating an ideal industrial foundation that has obvious advantages.
In terms of the digital economy, it is understood that Shinan has taken the lead in building a 5G gigabit, broadband gigabit and double-gigabit demonstration area.
In so doing, it has installed 809 base stations and is working with the Hisense Group to implement a 5G+ smart city demonstration area project, in order to promote full coverage of the 5G network.
