In recent years, the Shinan district of Qingdao in East China's Shandong province has ramped up efforts to boost its nighttime economy – by promoting concerts, talk shows, lightshows and creative markets – according to local media reports on May 17.
Qingdao was selected as one of China's Top 20 Nighttime Economy Cities at the 2020 China Night Economic Forum, with its vigorous moves to develop after-dark commerce seen as having helped it recover from the COVID-19 epidemic.
Culture and fashion have always been prominent aspects of Shinan. In its bid to push its nocturnal markets, it has endeavored to create a great combination of art, music, sports, urban history, humanities, architecture and tourism.
Bar Street blocks
The bar and music bar block in Shinan offers bars, coffee bars, snack bars, 110 music bars and 109 resident bands.
By the end of 2020, Qingdao had established 25 bar streets, within an area of nearly 1 million square meters.
High-end art performances
This year, in order to further promote its night economy brand, Shinan has organized large uninterrupted performance arts shows all year round – with folk music, jazz, pop music and a host of other things on offer.
Light shows
The elegant St. Emil Church is already a top evening feature there for many. It began putting on dazzling evening light shows last October, adding some glitz and glamour to Qingdao's Zhongshan Road business district.
