A widening and renovation project for Jinan Road, in the Zhongshan Road business area of Shinan district – in the port city of Qingdao in East China's Shandong province – was recently completed and re-opened to traffic.
The original one-way, two-lane thoroughfare was widened into a two-way, four-lane road, which became the main north-south road to handle the transit traffic of Zhongshan Road.
Its completion indicated that the reconstruction of Zhongshan Road has entered the fast lane.
From the overall point of view, the project is expected to help with the revival of the old town area in west Qingdao.
The project was reportedly a big challenge, involving the expropriation of 207 households and the relocation of 119 low-rent households – the first time Shinan carried out the expropriation and relocation of affordable housing.
