St. Emil Church put on a dazzling evening light show which ran from Oct 30 to Nov 8, not only adding glitz and glamour to the nightlife of Qingdao – the port city in East China's Shangdong province -- but also infusing its Zhongshan Road business district in Shinan with a new vitality, according to local officials.
Part of the Qingdao Innovation Festival, the Lighting Qingdao show successfully combined science and technology with art at the Catholic church in Shinan.
Officials said that through it, locals and tourists were able to experience the unique charms of old Qingdao, in an initiative that is bound to generate excitement and help drive the future economic development of the surrounding areas through building new landmarks and empowering the nighttime economy of the city.
"My shop was frantic as orders kept pouring in from 5pm until 10:30pm," a restaurant owner named Yin told journalists.
He said his nighttime business kept pushing up his turnover, with almost evening bettering the peak sales of last year.
