The 36th Shinan Chrysanthemum Exhibition is set to be held at Zhongshan Park and Wenhua Park in Shinan district, Qingdao in East China's Shandong province from Oct 24 to Nov 15.

The exhibition covers a total area of 2,300 square meters and contains nearly 67,000 pots of chrysanthemums in more than 170 varieties, such as single-headed chrysanthemum, multi-headed big flower chrysanthemum and bonsai chrysanthemum.

The Double Ninth Festival, also known as the Chongyang Festival in China, fell on Sunday this year. To celebrate the occasion, many young local residents took their parents to the exhibition to appreciate the flowers.

The Double Ninth Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. In Chinese folklore, the number nine is the largest number and has the same pronunciation as the Chinese word jiu, which contains the auspicious meaning of "a long and healthy life".
