Critics reported that the evening of Sept 11 featured a wonderful concert given by the Qindao Bajun National Orchestra – based in the Shinan district of Qingdao city, in East China's Shandong province -- and Fang Jinlong, master of the contemporary five-string pipa lute -- in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
Enthusiasts say that Fang Jinlong is a musician who has been devoted to preserving and promoting traditional music among young people for years. He has attracted lots of young fans on his social media platforms.
The Qindao Bajun National Orchestra, based on the traditional Chinese concept of "eight tones" -- namely gold, stone, earth, leather, silk, wood, gourd and bamboo -- is composed of members who are teachers specializing in Chinese music at the universities in Qingdao and all of them have a master's degree or above.
Fang often works with young musicians on stage. "There is no such thing as old generation or new generation. We are the same generation on the stage," he said after the concert.
