Shinan launches festival to boost shopping

A hundred shopping, catering, culture and tourism activities are being offered in the wake of the launch of the 2020 Qingdao Shopping Festival on Aug 8 in the Shinan district of Qingdao in East China's Shandong province.
Representatives from 50 fashionable new retail businesses, including Qingdao Mixc and Pizza Hut, attended the launch ceremony.
The organizers said the event aimed to boost consumption, cater to consumer demands, establish consumption hot spot, and promote the transformation and upgrade of businesses in Qingdao.
The shopping festival will last for 100 days to Nov 15.
The organizers said Chinese card payment giant China UnionPay will invest 10 million yuan ($1.4 million) to help fund activities like a "double benefit on Saturday", covering 15,000 chain brand merchants and 130,000 small, medium and micro businesses in Qingdao who will pass it on in the form of discounts on products and offers to shoppers.
