A ceremony marking the completion of isolation room renovations at Yargado hospital in Burkina Faso, West Africa was held on July 3.

Representatives from both countries, along with the contractor - Qingdao Haide Engineering Group Co Ltd - participated in the ceremony.

Li Jian, the Chinese ambassador to Burkina Faso, congratulated the country on the progress it has achieved in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The health and epidemic prevention department in Burkina Faso has taken timely and effective prevention and control measures against the epidemic. The number of new confirmed cases and deaths is remaining stable at a relatively low level, and the number of recoveries has been on the rise. Burkina Faso has become a leader in epidemic control in Africa, Li said.

Wilfried, secretary general of the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso, expressed sincere gratitude for all the assistance China has provided to Burkina Faso in the fight against the epidemic.

Building 1 of the isolation room has a total area of 400 square meters and 16 wards. It will be used for asymptomatic infected persons and ordinary patients. Building 2 is an intensive isolation ward, which will provide treatment for patients with severe symptoms. The newly-renovated hospital is expected to play a significant role in helping the country defeat the virus. 

As the disease knows no race and no borders, only with solidarity and cooperation can the international community prevail over the pandemic.
