In a bid to promote the high-quality development of innovation and entrepreneurship in Shinan district, Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, the 2020 Maker in China (Qingdao area), which is also known as the sixth Mayor Cup, innovation competition for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), was held at Huanghai Hotel on June 18. More than 50 companies from the district took part.

During the competition, representatives from 12 SMEs in Shinan district demonstrated their projects, such as front-end battery replacement for pure electric vehicles, a new-generation electronic intelligent ultrasonic water meter and a big data analysis platform for urban static traffic, all involving the industrial internet, information technology, new energy development and other fields.

Among the projects, an energy-saving and environment-protecting fiber technology called iterative polyester won first prize and attracted great attention for its ability to improve the softness while also strengthening the abrasive resistance of clothing materials.

Wang Guoxin, the first prize winner, said that the competition gives SMEs opportunities to show their work. The new fiber technology will bring a more comfortable wearing experience to people and create huge savings in energy consumption.

Shinan district's market supervision administration will exploit a string of enterprises and innovation projects with vast growth potential, and promote their landing and upgrading to create more economic growth.

"Innovation powers enterprise development, and we have built an exhibition platform through this competition to help enterprises develop their projects," Xia Lingjun, deputy head of Shinan district market supervision administration, said.

"All the projects participating in the competition will be included in the project bank, and we will keep our eyes on them and help enterprises achieve transformation and upgrading as quickly as possible."
