Shinan district in Qingdao, Shandong province is promoting the construction of its internet infrastructure, and a conference was held on May 19 to highlight its plans for full 5G coverage and the upgrading of its optical network.
According to a recently-issued provincial guidance document, local areas are being encouraged to develop new-generation mobile communication networks, promote high-quality 5G networks and set up high-level optical networks.
The district plans to focus on both the construction and upgrading of its local internet infrastructure. Modification work will be carried out in old communities, bringing the internet speeds there up to 1 Gbps.
In addition, service-oriented management is being promoted by the local government with the help of cloud technology, the internet, and information application.

This year, nearly 300 new 5G stations are predicted to be established and over 7,000 devices for broadband access will be upgraded, with a total investment of 120 million yuan ($16.90 million).
