A free clinic was held at the People's Hospital of Shinan district in Qingdao, on May 12, International Nurses Day.
Professional nurses provided local residents with consultations and basic tests for blood pressure and blood glucose levels during the event.
"It was a special day and we nurses should offer more nursing services to people on this day," said Tan Xin, director of the hospital’s nursing department.
When the hospital announced the free clinic, many nurses expressed interest in taking part, eventually forming a group experienced in rehabilitation, diabetes and colostomy treatment to run the free clinic.
Residents had to show their health QR code, have their temperature taken and register their information. They were also asked to keep a distance from others.
To ensure security, nurses would wash their hands with disinfectant after each test, and each participant had only 10 minutes for a consultation. If they had other questions, they could write down their contact numbers and the nurses called them later for further services.
All participants were given brochures on basic knowledge about COVID-19 epidemic prevention and general health tips.
"A large number of our peers set examples for us during the fight against the novel coronavirus and their spirit greatly inspired us," said Chen Xiaolin, a nurse at the free clinic.
