A painting exhibition was launched in Shinan district, Qingdao on April 22, World Earth Day, showcasing environmentally-themed paintings by local students. The exhibition will end on April 26.

More than 50 paintings, including watercolor paintings, crayon drawings and Chinese ink paintings, are on display, showcasing the vivid imaginations of the students. In addition, some students also made handicrafts out of waste materials.

"I drew a hand on the earth, as a call to everyone to work together to protect the earth," said Wang Meiyang, a 10-year-old student.

Students drew trees, buildings and even technological products to show the harmony between human beings and nature. They tried to understand the significance of protecting the environment, which was the whole point of the event, said a local social worker.
