Shinan officially implements garbage sorting regulations

The regulations on household garbage sorting were officially implemented in Shinan district, Qingdao, East China's Shandong province on Jan 6.
Shinan district started to promote garbage classification in 2013 and listed it as a major civil affair in 2014. In recent years, the district has been dedicated to make itself a clean, ecological, and civilized place, calling for public participation in garbage sorting.
Several publicity activities on garbage sorting have been held in the district to spread the concept and a volunteer group for garbage sorting was also set up, which consists of over 60 people from local urban management departments.

The volunteers will find and provide feedback on problems at collection sites of classified waste to help with more correct garbage classification and standardize management.
To date, garbage classification has covered 50 communities, 122 public organizations, and over 2,000 restaurants, benefiting more than 232,000 households in the district.
Garbage classification involves all residents, and everyone ought to develop the habit of garbage sorting and contribute to the improvement of the living environment, said Xu Qun, director of the Shinan district bureau of urban management.
