Shinan district, Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, has been striving to improve the infrastructure of local schools, as well as education services, over the past year.
In 2019, the district invested over 70 million yuan ($10.04 million) into the improvement of school infrastructure, constructing 50,000 square meters of new buildings and renovating 8,880 sq m of rundown areas.
To provide students with a more modern learning environment, seven local schools have installed advanced teaching facilities, including intelligent blackboards and classrooms for playing prerecorded broadcasts.
All schools in the district now have standard dining halls offering nutritious lunches to students. Students in Shinan district have also been provided with free exercise books and school uniforms.
The district built 16 new preschools in 2019, two of which are government-run and 14 of which are privately-owned. To date, 87 percent of preschool-aged children in Shinan district are enrolled in preschools, with the rate ranking top in the city.
Free after-school child care services have benefited more than 6,200 children in the district, alleviating pressure on many parents.
The district has also renovated 102 fitness sites and 579 fitness facilities, and built three new football fields and two amusement parks to create a "5-mintue fitness circle".
