Qingdao Ningxia Road Primary School in Shinan district, Qingdao was named a "national model for energy efficiency" on Nov 18. It is China's first primary school to receive this honor.

During the award ceremony, students sang a song about saving energy and an expert delivered a speech on advanced energy-saving equipment.

Yan Yonghong, president of the primary school, said the school planned to use new technology and materials to become even more energy efficient in the future.

The district government said it has been inspired by the honor and plans to enhance supervision on institutions and create a more ecofriendly society.
