The rapid development of the information industry in Shinan gained high praise from the mayor, who also encouraged science and technology enterprises to promote the application of their research achievements.

Shinan district has been committed to supporting Qingdao's project to build a "China Software City" and has made fruitful results. At a news conference reviewing the city's achievements in software development, 12 enterprises from Shinan, such as Dingxin Hisense Group and Integrated Electronic Systems Lab Co Ltd, were granted titles as name-brand products or companies. The Shinan Animation Game and Software Industrial Park also gained the title of famous park.

In recent years, software has become a pillar industry in Shinan district. Its industrial scale kept increasing so that its average annual income maintained a growth rate of more than 13 percent and should reach 26 billion ($3.7 billion) yuan this year. The industrial structure was also optimized. The district is home to as many as 3,000 software enterprises which cover the fields of software products, information system integration, embedded software, integrated circuit design, animation game, and emerging formats like cloud computing and big data. The enterprises invested a great deal of money in research and development so that the quality of products and solutions were significantly improved. More software technologies were applied in fields that concern the national economy and people's livelihoods, such as electric power and finance.

Liu Haibo, director of the science and technology bureau of Shinan district, emphasized that information technologies were the core force to promote technical innovation and drive economic and social transformation. The district would further develop software and information service industries by capitalizing on 5G technologies and establishing a sound industrial ecosystem to promote the construction of a "China Software City".
