An Olympic Dry Material Festival is taking place at Qingdao's Olympic Sailing Museum in Shandong province from June 28 to Aug 31 as part of the 2019 Qingdao International Ocean Festival.
Inspired by the Taobao Maker Festival, the event is expected to create a cluster of businesses including exhibitions, art performances, tourism and catering, and turn the cluster into a fashion block with Qingdao characteristics.
The organizers say the event aims to promote the image of "creative Qingdao", expose cultural brands with local characteristics to the country, and make more people familiar with an open, modern, fashionable and energetic Qingdao.
The event is composed of four sections – a fashion market, a culture market, an entertainment market, and a night market – as well as two themed activities – fashionable Qingdao and the night economy, and Qingdao manufacturing and old architecture.

The fashion market, themed on crazy box, opened on June 28 and used portable containers to display a variety of fashion businesses. The containers have been creatively assembled into various interesting shapes and served as venues for art exhibitions, performances, music bars, live streaming and other businesses, to entertain locals and visitors.
The culture market features over 20 creative cultural teams from Qingdao and all over the country showcasing their creative products. The market will also help to incubate the teams.
"Our culture market will keep providing platforms for young creative artists to display their products and exchange creative ideas, and help them gain more benefits to encourage them to create more and better products," the organizers said.
An artificial beach has been built at the entertainment market to allow visitors to experience the excitement of surfing and the joy of being close to water and playing on the beach. An outdoor surfing machine was bought from Shenzhen to satisfy the diverse needs of local residents and visitors.
The organizers hoped that people can gain a better understanding of marine culture via a series of beach entertainments and ocean sports.

The night market, which offers over 20 kinds of Qingdao delicacies and many popular delicacies from Taiwan, is a paradise for foodies.
The fashionable Qingdao and night economy-themed activity takes place at the fashion market from 7 pm to 9 pm every day during the festival. Folk singers, rockers and electronic musicians perform there regularly, and nine outdoor parties will be held on weekends.
The 636-square-meter Qingdao manufacturing and old architecture exhibition is set to open in mid-July.
