As the first auto headquarters enterprise to settle in Qingdao city – located in East China's Shandong province – Beijing-based automaker BAW's Qingdao base has hit the automated intelligent manufacturing development fast track.

It now has an automation rate of 90 percent, after several years of an industrial layout and technological upgrade.

An important promoter of the development of China's automobile industry, BAW has a renowned  history and collective experience which it has brought to Qingdao – by investing 15.2 billion yuan ($2.13 billion) to build the Qingdao headquarters base after capital restructuring.

The Qingdao base boasts a national research and development lab, various workshops, a power center and a logistic center. It is a digital intelligence production base with the characteristics of automation, digitalization and intelligence.

For example, the welding workshop is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, which can realize 100 percent automation of welding and gluing and a 100-percent qualification rate of welding intensity for welding joints.

It also has a powerful big data base to monitor production, quality inspection and other aspects. In addition to keeping the equipment in perfect working condition, the whole life cycle of the vehicle is also traceable throughout.

With a strong driving force for technological innovation, the annual production of the Qingdao headquarters base is expected to exceed 100,000 vehicles and the output value will top 10 billion yuan.
