Qingdao builds China's first standard shallow sea test site

Qingdao city in East China's Shandong province held the groundbreaking ceremony of the Qingdao Marine Comprehensive Test Site Project and a raft of Q4 major projects of Qingdao Blue Valley on Oct 17.

With a total investment of 11.6 billion yuan ($1.60 billion), the 14 major projects involve science and technology, people's livelihoods and many other fields.

Among the projects, China's first standard shallow sea test site, the Qingdao Marine Comprehensive Test Site, was launched. It is divided into sea and land parts covering 20 square kilometers and 140 mu (9.33 hectares) respectively, with a total investment of 3 billion yuan.

It is expected to improve the efficiency of research and development and become a public research, development and test platform for the marine high-end equipment industry.

"We will provide different technical services to create a one-stop platform, according to various needs of the marine equipment industry," said Wang Xunlong, assistant general manager of Qingdao NMEI Group Co Ltd and president of Qingdao Marine Comprehensive Test Site Co Ltd.

Qingdao has a large number of marine scientific research institutions and enterprises, and there is an urgent need for marine testing. The establishment of the marine comprehensive test site is expected to inject new momentum into Qingdao's growth as a leading modern marine city.
