Qingdao, a popular coastal tourism destination in Shandong province, welcomed more than 12.88 million tourists during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday that ended on June 24.

During the holiday, tourists made 1.85 million trips, an increase of 59.04 percent from the holiday period in 2019, to the city's 83 A-level tourist attractions monitored by local culture and tourism bureau. A traditional Chinese festival, the Dragon Boat Festival holiday usually involves activities such as dragon boat races and the eating of glutinous rice dumplings, known as zongzi, for good luck.

Qingdao launched a slew of celebratory activities like experiential projects and folk activities at scenic spots and cultural venues to entertain visitors.

The Qingdao Olympic Sailing and Marine Culture Tourist Area also held concerts, children's model shows and other themed activities.

The Qingdao Polar Ocean World, which launched a new dome theater and a Dragon Boat Festival holiday themed celebration, attracted 50,700 tourists and generated an operating revenue of 10.11 million yuan, increases of 152.4 percent and 217.05 percent year-on-year respectively.

The Qingdao Fantawild Dreamland held firework shows, the "Monkey King" stage play, a float parade, a land dragon boat race and other activities during the holiday. The park welcomed 15,700 tourists and had an operating income of 3.39 million yuan, up 70.03 percent and 61.65 percent year-on-year respectively.
