The port is located in the West Coast New Area and started construction in 2009 with a planned land area of 72 square kilometers, 112 berths, 35.7 kilometers of wharf coastline, and an annual passing capacity of 530 million tons.

The Dongjiakou port currently has 5.45 kilometers of wharf shoreline and 18 berths. Its container and cargo throughput reached 158.12 million tons in 2019.
