The hospital is the largest comprehensive hospital under the administration of the provincial authority. It is a national third-grade class-A hospital, having four branches and 3,700 patient beds.

The hospital has 75 clinical departments, 23 research laboratories, 41 key national-, provincial- and municipal- level disciplines and laboratories, including two key national disciplines (specialized departments), 29 key provincial clinical specialized departments, and a provincial specialized traditional Chinese medicine department. It is a doctoral degree training provider with a postdoctoral research station for clinical medicine and nursing. 

The Shinan branch covers an area of 60,000 sq m with a floor area of 120,000 sq m.

There are departments of emergency, internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, ophthalmology, stomatology and ENT, and oncology，as well as the department of medical technology assistance. It specializes in organ transplantation, emergency rescue, serious diseases consultation, interventional diagnosis and treatment, stem cells diagnosis and treatment.

The Laoshan branch is located in the Shilaoren bathing beach resort, covering 105 mu (70,000 sq m). It boasts convenient transportation and perfect facilities.

Its predecessor, Qingdao Wanjie Hospital was purchased by the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University in December of 2006. The Laoshan branch opened on Jan 27, 2007 and aims to grow into a comprehensive hospital with specialized feature. 

Since its establishment, Laoshan branch has effectively helped ease the difficulties of getting medical services for people in the city’s Shibei district and eastern area.

The Huangdao branch (or Qingdao Xihaian Hospital) was a comprehensive hospital founded by the Qingdao municipal government, the administrative committee of the development zone, and the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University in accordance with the Third-grade class-A standard. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the hospital took place in November of 2007 and the construction started in October of 2008. It was put into use in May of 2011. 

The hospital takes up 138,000 sq m, and the floor space of the first phase is 210,000 sq m. The total investment is 1.08 billion yuan ($164.13 million).

There are over 1,800 staff members, including some 160 senior technicians, and its employees with  master's and PhD degrees are over 300 and 80, respectively. 

In addition, more than 700 experts, professors and managerial personnel of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University take turns to work at the branch to ensure its patients to get the same service as the headquarter.

The Shibei branch covers an area of 8,938.4 sq m and has a floor space of 8,990.18 sq m. It is a high-end hospital with surgical outpatient diagnosis and specializes in comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of tumor.

The branch has five clinical departments, namely, tumor No 1, No 2, No 3 and No 5 department and comprehensive internal medicine department 

It focuses on five sub-departments that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of tumor in the respiratory system, the digestive system and breast tumor, and the comprehensive treatment of internal malady.
