Qingdao lights the night, welcoming New Year

The eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province started the annual celebratory illumination of skyscrapers towering over the city on Feb 8, marking the Little New Year (Chinese: Xiaonian), which takes place a week before the lunar New Year.

The event will last until March 2, the Lantern Festival.
