Qingdao Forum on International Standardization to open next week

The 2017 Qingdao Forum on International Standardization (QFS) will be held from June 27 to 29 in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province.

Under the guidance of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) and the Shandong provincial government, the three-day event is jointly organized by the Qingdao municipal government and the Qingdao bureau of quality and technical supervision.

The event adopts a "1+6+2" model under the theme "Standards Make Cities Smarter". "1" refers to one main forum; "6" refers to the six sub-forums, namely the Voluntary Sustainable Standards Workshop, Advanced Standards Leading the Development of Intelligent Manufacturing, Equipment and Technical Innovation Development of High Speed Railways Promoted by Standards, International Standards Support Sustainable Development of Cities, International Forum on Ships and Marine Standardization & Industrial Development, and International Standardization Talent Cultivation and Education; and "2" refers to the ISO President's Committee meeting and the Sino-German Standardization Cooperation Conference, sponsored by SAC and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, which are scheduled during the forum.

The six sub-forums are co-organized by institutions and enterprises including the China Association for Standardization, the Haier Group Corporation, the CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd, the China National Institute of Standardization, the Shipbuilding Information Center of China and Qingdao University.

More than 400 distinguished guests from home and abroad will attend the event, including top officials from international standardization organizations such as Zhang Xiaogang, president of ISO, Frans Vreeswijk, secretary general and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission, Wolfgang Niedziella, managing director and chairman of VDE, Bernhard Thies, chairman of the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE, and Chaesub Lee, director of ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau.

The QFS is designed as a regular international conference to discuss and coordinate hotspot issues related to international standardization and social, economic and environmental development. It aims to build a high-end platform for dialog on international standardization, generate opportunities for cooperation among international, regional and national standardization organizations and promote the development of standardization.
