An international cancer hospital project with total investment of 2.35 billion yuan ($340 million) jointly funded by the Philadelphia-based Fox Chase Cancer Center, Qingdao City Construction Investment (Group) Co, and a Beijing-based investment company officially settled in the Qingdao West Coast New Area on March 23.

With a planned construction area of 150,000 square meters the project is intended to become a national demonstration center of oncotherapy.

The Fox Chase Cancer Center was formed in 1974 by the union of the American Oncologic Hospital, established in 1904, with the Institute for Cancer Research, founded in 1927.

For its outstanding achievement in the areas of cancer treatment, prevention and research, Fox Chase became a National Cancer Institute (NCI) comprehensive cancer center. Only 45 centers in the United States are qualified for this highest level of designation by the federal government's principal agency for cancer research and treatment.
