Six Qingdao doctors set off on a two-year mission to Tanzania on Aug 27, 2015 to provide medical services for locals. Up until now, the Qingdao team has provided treatment to nearly 10,000 local patients.

Five doctors including Sun Long, Zhu Jian, Xie Weifeng, Qu Xianfeng, Zhu Jinqiang, went to Muhimbili National Hospital, while Si Weifeng went to Dodoma Regional Hospital.

The six Qingdao doctors and 16 doctors from elsewhere in Shandong province are the 24th medical team from China to visit the country, beginning 48 years ago in March 1968.

Various diseases including yellow fever, Ebola and AIDS are prevalent in Tanzania, and along with difficult natural and social conditions in the country, are some of the challenges faced by the doctors.

Tanzania has established friendly ties with China since its independence. The Chinese government attaches great importance to medical aid offered to Tanzania, in order to help to bolster the African nation’s public health system.
