A duplicate of the Eden Project, a tourist attraction in Cornwall, England, will be built by the original Project management in Qingdao, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province.
Costing a total of over 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion), the project will be built in the coastal area of North Jiaozhou Bay, according to a Qingdao Daily report on Sept 21.
The park, featuring themed plants and water displays, giant greenhouses and high-tech entertainment facilities, aims to be a leading eco and recreational tourist destination in Asia.
According to its developer, the annual number of visitors is expected to exceed 1 million, and it plans to build six Eden Projects in the world in the next 10 to 15 years.
The Eden Project in Cornwall, located in a huge crater, is the world's biggest botanical greenhouse. Opened in 2001, it was selected as the Best UK Leisure Attraction in 2014 and recognized as the world's eighth Wonder by the New York Times.
