The Qingdao West Coast New Zone was approved by the State Council on June 3. The zone is located in the western coastline of Jiaozhou Bay.

With obvious advantages in geographical conditions, scientific and technological personnel, marine resources, industrial basis, and preferential policy environment, the zone has unique conditions to promote the balanced development of urban and rural areas.

The Qingdao West Coast New Zone was approved by the State Council on June 3. The zone is located in the western coastline of Jiaozhou Bay, covering a land area of 2,096 square meters (sq m) and a marine area of 5,000 sq m. The whole administrative area of Huangdao district belongs to the Qingdao West Coast New Zone.

With obvious advantages in geographical conditions, scientific and technological personnel, marine resources, industrial basis, and preferential policy environment, the zone has unique conditions to promote the balanced development of urban and rural areas, land and sea areas, and the development of military and civilian integration. Qingdao has been designated as a leader of the blue economy. Qingdao’s marine economy has been upgraded into a national strategy. A full marine industrial chain in Qingdao with the establishment of facilities for marine engineering as well as national bases of petrochemical and biochemical industries is expected to be built up.

The Qingdao West Coast New Zone is expected to insist on the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory, The Thought of Three Represents and the Scientific Outlook on Development concept to accelerate blue economy development. The blue economy is generally defined to include all marine industries.

The State Council also posed requirements for the Shandong provincial government to improve the working mechanism to actively and steadily push forward the construction and development of the Qingdao West Coast New Economic Zone.
