Heavy fog shrouding the sea waters of the coastal city of Qingdao has halted the passage of over 170 ships, said local authorities on May 10.

As of 1:30 pm Thursday, all ports of Qingdao, Shandong province, were closed due to the heavy fog. Qingdao marine affairs and immigration control authorities will continue to monitor the situation, according to Qingdao immigration control station.

The heavy fog descended early Wednesday evening.
