A reporter recently learned from the Department of Finance of Shandong Province that Shandong will expropriate compensation on the behavior of marine pollution damage to protect and save the coastal ecosystem from this year.

In recent years, some coastal areas in Shandong Province have been seriously polluted. In response, Shandong formulated the "Shandong’s Interim Measures of Compensation for Marine Ecosystem Damage and Loss." This is the first compensation mechanism for marine ecological damage in China. Based on the document, after the compensation fee was collected, the province retains 50%, the county retains 35% while the municipal city shares only 15%. Provincial retained funds will be used to support the whole province’s marine and fishery ecological environment restoration, protection, improvement and management and assist the posse cities and counties in doing that work.
