'New energy' forum begins April 28 in Qingdao

The press conference of the 2010 China Qingdao International Forum on New Energy was held on April 14,in Qingdao,east China’s Shandong province.

Government officials, “new energy” experts and business representatives from 25 countries and regions will meet in Qingdao in East China’s Shandong province April 28 to April 30 for the 2010 China Qingdao International Forum on New Energy & Sino-German Cooperation Qingdao Summit.

The theme is “New Energy and Sustainable Development” for a forum that will focus on the development of alternative (new) energy resources, energy savings and emissions reduction, environmental protection, energy conservation and other topics.

"The development of new energy is China’s inevitable choice to cope with environmental pollution and to reduce emissions. Currently, China has a sound record of development in the new energy sector, with an annual wind power capacity of 25 million kilowatts ranking second in the world and a solar power capacity of 4 million kilowatts,” Shi Lishan, deputy director of the National Energy Bureau, said at a news conference.

"In recent years, Shandong province has enjoyed rapid development in the sector. In 2009, new energy achieved an installed capacity of 380,000 kilowatts, accounting for 5 percent of the total. The province’s annual biogas capacity is 1.3 billion cubic meters and solar power capacity is 20 million square meters,” said Xue Ke, director of the Shandong Province Development and Reform Commission.

The forum will promote Shandong province to strengthen overseas cooperation on technology development, research and related policies in the sector, according to Wang Xu, deputy secretary-general of Shandong province.
