Located in the southeast part of Qingdao, Laoshan District is a new garden-style district, with a total area of 389 square kilometers and a population of more than 3 million people and seafront of 103 kilometers.

Laoshan has three national policy areas, which are Qingdao high-tech industrial park, Laoshan Scenic Area and the Shilaoren Holiday Resort. It focuses on cultivating four high-tech industries: home appliance electronics, marine bio-pharmaceuticals, software, and new materials. It also is working to build the core area of Qingdao high-tech industries, an international tourist resort area and a modern service industry area.
