The Exhibition of New Year Paintings from Qingdao West Coast New Area opened at the Culture and Tourism Bureau on Jan 1. Located in the second-floor gallery of Building 1, the exhibition is open through Feb 28, giving residents and visitors two months to experience a key part of Chinese folk art.

New Year paintings, or nianhua, are a cherished part of China's traditional cultural heritage. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these works symbolize the public's hopes and prayers for a prosperous life. This year's collection features over 50 selected Jiaonan New Year paintings, a regional style known for its bold colors and storytelling depth.

The exhibition presents a blend of tradition and modernity. While the works retain the classic charm of ancient folk techniques, they incorporate contemporary themes that reflect the current era. The collection is a visual record of social development, capturing diverse scenes from the bustling energy of urban streets to the serene abundance of rural harvest fields.

The paintings also celebrate China's commitment to technological innovation and cultural preservation. By having the spirit of modern progress alongside the protection of ancestral customs, the exhibition provides a space where art meets history.
