High-end new display materials base lands in Qingdao WCNA

A major boost for the local tech supply chain is in the works following the recent signing of the New Display High-End Composite Materials (Qingdao) Industrialization Base Project. This important initiative is set to establish its operations within the Qingdao New Display Industrial Park in the Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA).

The project is the first OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) company to join the park and focuses on the R&D, production, and sales of high-performance OCA. This material is vital for various advanced applications, including foldable screen phones, vehicle displays, and VR/AR equipment. Its localization will fill a crucial upstream materials gap in Qingdao's new display industrial value chain.

Implementation will occur in two phases. Phase one involves constructing a pilot factory to produce 2 million square meters annually of high-performance OCA, primarily serving key local manufacturers such as Qingdao BOE, Haier, and Hisense.

Phase two will expand the facility into a comprehensive composite materials base, integrating R&D, production, and sales. It is projected to achieve an annual output of 10 million square meters of OCA and supporting materials. This production scale is intended to fully replace products from foreign manufacturers like 3M and Nitto, addressing domestic performance capacity shortages.

The project is a major step in helping Qingdao become a national leader and globally recognized hub for the new display industry.
