Qingdao West Coast New Area's Lingshan Island is leading in low-altitude logistics, with its routine drone delivery route recognized as a national model among 23 newly introduced operational models.
Lingshan Island, the highest island in northern China and a national AAA-rated tourist attraction, has traditionally relied on boats for goods transportation. This method is often disrupted by adverse weather and rough seas, leading to frequent service interruptions. As a result, island residents face challenges in receiving timely essential supplies, particularly during emergencies or at night.
To tackle these issues, a low-altitude logistics route was launched on Feb 27, connecting Jimiya Pier and Lingshan Island. As the first of its kind in northern China, the route has completed over 60 flights, transporting more than one metric ton of goods. Compared to traditional boat transport, delivery drones have reduced one-way transport time from 40 minutes to just 10 minutes, boosting efficiency by over 70 percent.
Looking ahead, the Lingshan Island route plans to further its capabilities with the acquisition of multi-rotor drones featuring extended flight range and increased payload capacity. These new drones can carry loads of 20 kg over 60 km or 30 kg over 30 km, meeting the actual cargo demands between the mainland and the island. Plans include operating three to six flights per day, with priority for emergency deliveries. Additionally, the development of phone booking and mainland transfer options is being expedited to provide practical convenience for island residents.
