chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: May 9, 2025

Two significant advancements were recently made in the Dongjiakou Port Area of Qingdao Port in Qingdao West Coast New Area. The second 400,000-metric ton ore terminal has reached its crucial final phase and Berth No 2 at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal has been sanctioned for external use.

As China's largest ore terminal currently under construction, Qingdao Port's second 400,000-ton ore terminal commenced construction in December 2022. With a designed annual handling capacity of 16 million tons and an additional storage area of 1.25 million square meters, the project is now 93 percent complete.

The terminal will bolster Qingdao Port's position as the national leader among coastal ports in unloading large vessels of 400,000 tons and above.

Berth No 2 at an LNG terminal at Dongjiakou Port Area was recently approved for external use by the provincial port inspection team after being inspected. With a designed annual handling capacity of 5.3 million tons, this new berth, in conjunction with the existing Berth No 1, establishes a "dual-berth linkage" configuration, increasing the port area's annual LNG unloading capacity to over 10 million tons and solidifying Qingdao Port's strategic position as the largest LNG receiving base in northern China.
