Enterprise in Qingdao achieves milestone in rocket tank development

A 4.2-meter-diameter thin-walled stainless steel rocket tank was recently completed in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) by the Qingdao branch of Huanyu Qiankun Aerospace Technology Co Ltd.

Stainless steel rocket tanks, renowned for their exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength, and excellent low-temperature performance, are the preferred choice among next-generation rocket propellant storage systems. The new stainless steel tanks have the potential to be integrated into China's new generation of commercial launch vehicles, reducing manufacturing costs while enhancing the rocket's reliability and reusability.

The Qingdao branch of Huanyu Qiankun Aerospace Technology began working on the 4.2-meter-diameter stainless steel rocket tank project last year and has assembled a core team comprising experts in materials science, sheet metal, riveting, spinning, welding, and other key fields. 

Throughout the development process, the company overcame key technical challenges, such as the intricate sheet metal forming of stainless steel materials. It successfully carried out the entire manufacturing process — from raw materials to the finished stainless steel tank — while meeting all stipulated requirements. 

The aerospace industry in Qingdao WCNA is poised for unprecedented growth.
