Phoenix Register of Shipping anchors Asian headquarters in Qingdao

chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: February 20, 2025

The renowned Greek Phoenix Register of Shipping (PHRS) recently established its Asia headquarters in the Qingdao Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ) in Qingdao West Coast Area. It is the first classification society to set up an Asian headquarters in Qingdao.

Established in 2000, PHRS is a globally respected authority in maritime inspection and certification, offering a spectrum of services including ship classification, certification, and verification.

PHRS chose Qingdao as its maiden Asian hub due to the rapid evolution of China's ship-owning and shipbuilding sectors and the burgeoning maritime service landscape within the Qingdao FTZ.

In addition to its core ship classification, certification, and verification services, the Qingdao branch of PHRS will collaborate closely with maritime authorities to expand its footprint across the region, spreading outward from Qingdao. The strategic plan includes the establishment of regional headquarters in key cities nationwide, with a projected addition of 300 newly classified vessels within the next three years, further solidifying Qingdao's pivotal role in the global maritime domain.

PHRS will offer top-tier inspection and certification services to ship enterprises in Qingdao and Shandong province, elevating the region's maritime service standards. Furthermore, PHRS's presence is set to catalyze the growth of Qingdao's ship design, construction, trade, and associated industries, weaving together a comprehensive maritime industry ecosystem. With an extensive global business network and partnerships, PHRS will use its Qingdao operations to deepen maritime collaborations with nations involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, fostering an international platform for cooperation.
