Qingdao FTZ's innovative model accommodates Spring Festival spending spree

chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: February 2, 2024

In preparation for the surge in Spring Festival spending, the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ) in Qingdao, Shandong province began stockpiling goods in December of last year.

Currently, the zone boasts a stockpile of nearly 50 million items. To reward consumers, detailed promotional plans have been devised.

The China-Japan-Korea Consumer Zone E-commerce Experience Center, situated within the Qingdao FTZ, showcases a collection of almost 10,000 products from over 30 countries. Each consumer there enjoys tariff exemptions for cross-border e-commerce, with limits set at 5,000 yuan ($698.72) per transaction and 26,000 yuan per year.

Recognizing the increase in spending among consumers, the China-Japan-Korea Consumer Zone E-commerce Experience Center launched by Qingdao FTZ – a pioneering center in the province – has created a so-called "front store and back warehouse integration + fast delivery" model.

Unlike traditional cross-border e-commerce sales models, the model emphasizes speed above all else.

To ensure rapid product delivery, the experience center's warehouse is located next to the Qingdao West Coast New Area Bonded Logistics Center. Over 400 platforms, including Vipshop, JD.com and Cainiao, have established a presence in the park, serving over 1,500 service providers. The park is now the only one in China that houses all cross-border e-commerce platforms and industrial chains.

Furthermore, the Qingdao West Coast New Area Bonded Logistics Center has adopted a cross-border e-commerce bonded stocking model to facilitate quick product delivery.
