chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: October 25, 2023

The Spirit of Hela liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, a vessel from Papua New Guinea, a country involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, arrived at the Sinopec Tianranqi Company Qingdao LNG terminal on Oct 23.

The vessel brought 80,000 metric tons of LNG and its arrival marked the 600th LNG that was unloaded at the Qingdao LNG terminal.

The terminal has received and unloaded over 42 million tons of LNG to date.

The Qingdao LNG terminal, located in the Dongjiakou Economic Zone, Qingdao West Coast New Area, which has been operational since November 2014, supplies gas to areas including Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei and Henan.

This is Sinopec's first LNG receiving terminal and the only one in operation in Shandong province. With an annual receiving and regasification capacity of 7 million tons, it has consistently been ranked among the country's top three terminals for five consecutive years.

Following the completion of the terminal's Phase III project, the terminal's annual unloading capacity will be increased to 11 million tons. Additionally, the annual gas supply capacity will reach 16.5 billion cubic meters, enabling the terminal to meet the gas demands of 90 million households for one year.
