The China University of Petroleum (UPC) is a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education.
It is one of the first batch of universities in China to be included in the Double First-Class initiative, a national program for China's higher education excellency. It is also a member of the "211 Project" and "985 project innovation platform for well-established disciplines" universities.
The UPC is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education, domestic energy companies, and the Shandong provincial government. It serves as a crucial platform for training high-level talents in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors.
This university has two campuses and one science and education park - the Qingdao Tangdao Bay campus, the Qingdao Guzhenkou campus and the Dongying science and education park. The university spans 334.93 hectares and has a construction area of 1.4 million square meters. The university is composed of 16 colleges, and its library houses a collection of 3.15 million books.
