In the first half of this year, the import and export cargo volume of Dongjiakou port area of Qingdao Port in Qingdao West Coast New Area reached 72.66 million metric tons, a 21.8 percent increase year-on-year.

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Dongjiakou port area received a fully loaded LNG vessel on July 20. This was the third imported LNG vessel received by the Qingdao LNG terminal in the second half of this year.

To enhance the efficiency of LNG clearance, the local customs at Dongjiakou port area have introduced a pre-declaration and appointment inspection system for imported ships and LNG.

In the first half of this year, the local customs inspected 2.72 million tons of imported LNG, a 22.5 percent year-on-year increase.

Furthermore, customs officials inspected 3.46 million tons of imported grain in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of nearly 30 percent.

Due to the surge in grain imports, the local customs has implemented intelligent inspection equipment powered by the internet of things, artificial intelligence and big data. Manual inspection and sampling tasks are now performed by machines so as to improve clearance efficiency and reduce clearance costs for companies.

"Customs explored intelligent equipment and systems for inspecting imported bulk grains, and this has improved the efficiency and reduced the average clearance time by 10 hours," said Zong Xiaopeng, deputy manager of the Dongjiakou branch of Qingdao Port International Co.
